Small Sawmill Business Workshop

UNH Extension and the U S Forest Service’s Wood Education & Research Center will hold a Small Sawmill Business Workshop at the Thompson School sawmill at UNH in Durham, NH on April 1^st from 9 am to 4 pm.

This event is a one day workshop that focuses on how to operate a profitable small sawmill business. It will include group discussions and demonstrations at the UNH sawmill.

The workshop will begin at 9AM with discussions about the business of operating a small sawmill operation. During the day we will expand the discussion to sourcing logs, sawmill equipment, dry kiln equipment, business management and marketing lumber products. We will have lunch at noon and will end the day with demonstrations of log sawing and lumber grading at 4PM.

We will include discussions of live edge slab production and drying.

Dry kiln discussions will involve multiple types of kilns, including solar, dehumidification, traditional steam and hot water and vacuum dry kilns.

Cost of the workshop is $45 per attendee, including lunch and a business guide.
