Biochar is a carbon-rich soil amendment produced when biomass is heated in a limited to no oxygen environment. Biochar holds moisture and nutrients in the soil for plant uptake. Complex interactions between the soil, the type of biochar applied, crops grown, and the environment impact the effects of biochar on crop yield and soil health.
The U S Forest Service’s Biochar Initiative will hold a Pairing Biochar Properties with Soil Deficiencies to Improve Agronomic Outcomes webinar on February 10th at 11 am EST.
The webinar will be presented by Dr Kristin Trippe, who is a research microbiologist with the Agricultural Research Service, an agency within the US Department of Agriculture in Corvallis, Oregon. Her laboratory focuses on the effects of biochar on soil health and microbial community dynamics
